What it means

eDane are the electronic services of the Financial Administration available through its portal. They allow returns, statements and applications to be filed, decisions and requests to be received, and the status of tax obligations to be followed without visiting the office.

Businesses and companies must communicate with the tax office electronically. They authorise filings with a qualified electronic signature or a chip ID card, or through an electronic delivery agreement, and the office delivers documents to their electronic mailbox.

The portal includes a personal online zone with forms, filing history, the taxpayer’s personal account and the tax calendar. It also shows the tax reliability index, which grants the company advantages or marks it as high-risk.

How it works in practice

We file VAT returns, control statements and recapitulative statements for clients through eDane in structured form straight from the accounting software. Importing the data reduces the risk of typos, and the portal checks formal errors before submission.

To represent a client we need a power of attorney registered with the tax office and access to the personal zone. As tax representative we then see filings, delivered documents and the account balance and can respond to requests in time.

The filing confirmation eDane generates is the only reliable proof that a filing went in on time. We store it with the return in the client’s archive and present it to the tax office whenever delivery is in doubt.

What to watch out for

A filing counts as made only once it has been properly authorised. A form that was saved but not sent or not authorised is not a filing, and the company can miss the deadline while believing everything went out.

The portal is at its busiest before deadlines, especially at the end of March and on the 25th of each month, and may be slower. We therefore do not leave filings to the last hours, and if the system fails we take screenshots as evidence for a possible waiver of the penalty.
